Cotton Mouth / Boot Mill Flavor
Cotton Mouth was a Northwest New Jersey high school band, founded by Jason Moretti, Jesse Wallace, Tim Kochanski, and Cindy Cordero. After high school, all but Cindy moved to Lowell, MA to pursue the band and college. Jesse and Tim joined the reputable sound recording program at the college. They immediately grew the band with other UML music school students, Martin Huq, Jason Samiagio and Yahuba Garcia. The band worked hard to promote themselves with a postcard mailing list, and paper flyers posted all about campus and town. They took off in popularity playing many shows on and off campus as well as Boston, Worcester and New York City.
"Shady" was ] the name of Cotton Mouth's first album release which brought them much local success, and soon after UML music school student and percussionist, Yahuba Garcia joined the band. They all started to realize that there were too many other bands named "Cotton Mouth" across the nation, so they changed their name to "The Boot Mill Flavor", a nod to the city of Lowell, and the infamous sandwich found at Arthur's Paradise Diner on Bridge St., in Lowell.
Their second full length album under the new band name, Boot Mill Flavor, cleverly kept their original name in the album title, "We're Still Cotton Mouth". It features guest performances by UML music students, Andrea' Ciraldo and Big Ben Hillman and was recorded by UML sound recording student, Greg Lojko. The band recorded each track live in the makeshift apartment studio of Lojko's across from South Campus. Local legendary artist, Steve Paquin, painted the album cover, and was recently filmed by NH Chronicle.
Grammy winner and UML alumni, Joel Plante, has remastered the band's two college album releases. The remasters will be found on all streaming services under the combined band name, "Cotton Mouth Boot Mill Flavor", set for release on Halloween of 2023.
Since their disbandment in 2000, they have remained brothers in friendship and have thrown a few sold out reunion shows in their hometown of Lowell, MA. All of the members are still active in the music scene, especially Yahuba Garcia who plays with so many including Duke Levine, and Ryan Montbleau Band. Main Cotton Mouth songwriter, Tim Kochanski, performs as TIMKO all around Greater Boston, plus puts together many singer/songwriter events at Boston Loves Music. A Music Documentary is being filmed about the band’s history in Lowell that weekend along with the concert by musician filmmaker Ricky Oritz who is coming from Puerto Rico.
